Step A: Report the loss of your passport

1. Check and confirm the loss of your passport as passports reported lost will be cancelled and cannot be used again, even if recovered after reporting.

2. Upon confirming the loss of your passport, report the loss to ICA immediately online.

3. You should also file a police report for the loss of your passport which is required by the Indonesian Immigration Department.

Step B: Decide if you require a Document of Identity

1. If you are returning to Singapore, you will need to apply for a Document of Identity (DOI), which is an emergency travel document meant for one-way travel back to Singapore. Singaporeans issued with a DOI should not attempt to continue their travel or cross borders between countries. If necessary, do check with the relevant immigration authorities and airlines if you are allowed to continue with your travel.

2. If you are working or studying in Indonesia, you may wish to apply for a new passport and collect it at the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission (Read about applying for a new passport here). Processing time for new passports overseas is around four to six weeks.

Step C: Apply for a Document of Identity

1. You can apply for a Document of Identity (DOI) and collect it at your nearest Singapore Overseas Mission via ICA e-Services. You will be prompted to apply for a DOI after you have reported the loss of your passport in Step A (2). Alternatively, you may apply via the ICA website here.

2. Once your DOI is ready for collection, the Singapore Overseas Mission you have selected will contact you.

3. Based on the Indonesian Immigration Department’s regulations, you are required to (a) file a police report on the loss of your passport and (b) apply for an Exit Permit (EPO) for the use of your DOI to exit Indonesia. You can apply for the EPO at the Indonesian Immigration office at the airport of your point of departure from Indonesia during office hours. You should report to the office at least 5 hours before your scheduled departure.

4. Upon your return to Singapore, you may wish to apply for a new passport at the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Please note that Payment for the DOI (SGD 15) can be made online with a credit card or PayNow for applications using ICA e-Services. As the application will be made through ICA e-Services, you do not have to prepare passport-sized photographs or prepare a local police report.

Steps for Singaporeans who are unable to access ICA’s e-Services

1. Once you have discovered that your passport is lost, you should lodge a police report with the local police and contact the Embassy.

2. Please provide the Embassy with your full name, date of birth and NRIC number.

3. The Embassy will assist to apply for a DOI, which is subject to ICA’s approval, on your behalf.

4. Upon approval from ICA, the Embassy will contact you to issue the Document of Identity (DOI) after your particulars have been verified. The DOI application fee of IDR173,000 is to be paid in cash or by bank transfer.

5. Based on the Indonesian Immigration Department’s regulations, you are required to (a) file a police report for the loss of your passport and (b) apply for an Exit Permit (EPO) for the use of your DOI to exit Indonesia. You can apply for the EPO at the Indonesian immigration office at the airport of your point of departure from Indonesia during office hours. You should report to the Indonesian immigration office at least 5 hours before your scheduled departure.

6. Upon your return to Singapore, you may wish to apply for a new passport at the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
